pymemos: Voice Memo Player

screen shot

I've found the memorec program to be an invaluable part of my new iPAQ. I also found that I had no easy way to play them back, or delete them when no longer needed. This program will list all the voice recording files, play them back, and delete them if desired.

No installation or configuration is required. Just grab it from here: pymemos [3kb], put it in your path, perhaps add it to your menu, and start it up. It's written in python, so can be easily altered.

isndrst

I've encountered a minor problem with my iPAQ 3835 in that each time it awakens, the sound chip is initialized to some speed other than the 16k that is used in the .wav files. I glanced at the source for the sound driver, but haven't had time to pursue it. The default speed might be the most appropriate, and I've always gotten around it by simply recording a short file, then deleting it.

As a temporary fix, I created a utility that initializes the sound chip to the same values used in the recordings, isndrst. I added a line to /etc/resume-scripts/R40sound that calls it when the ipaq wakes up, and the problem's solved (for me anyway):

/usr/bin/isndrst

Familiar Package

4/18/02: You can now just install this package: pymemos_1.0_arm.ipk. It's signed with my pgp key: pymemos_1.0_arm.ipk.asc. This package includes the isndrst utility described above.

If you're configured to point to the unstable feed at handhelds.org , just do a ipkg install pymemos.
